This year the Pride of Longbridge Rally will be held on Saturday 16th April 2011. For those who have not attended the rally before it is a fairly informal event, where you can just turn up and chat to other enthusiasts on the day. The Pride of Longbridge Rally is organised by the Longbridge Community Action Trust which supports those affected by the closure of MG Rover. The annual rally marks the anniversary of over 6000 employees being made redundant and celebrates the cars, the work of the factory and the people behind it over 100 years. Nigel Haigh will be at Hopwood Services, Junction 2 on the M42 (B48 7AU) at 10am on the morning to meet members. (Nigel drives a Red Cabriolet -K214 KAB). The plan is then to depart at approximately 10.15 and drive onto Cofton Park opposite the main entrance of the factory (Q gate) on Low Hill Lane, Longbridge. Members can also go straight onto Cofton Park. The rally is open to all Austin and Longbridge built vehicles including other marques whose engines and gearboxes were built or designed at Longbridge. There is no entrance fee and no need to book in advance. However if you notify Nigel of your attendance before hand then we will know which members to look out for on the day.
The Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs 2011 "Drive It Day" takes place on Sunday 17th April. The Drive It Day On is part of the campaign against legislation to remove older vehicles on the road. On this day members are encouraged to drive their classic instead of their modern vehicle.
The South West Area Members have again organised a display at the prestigious Bristol Classic Car Show. We will have three cars on display. MG Saloon Day is the main national event of the MG 'M' Group for owners of MG Metros, Maestros and Montegos to get together and display their cars. However do not be dismayed, as in more recent years the show has grown to include more modern MGs and Rovers. There will be a Rover 200 and 400 Owners club stand at this event, with a club display area set aside for your vehicle.
The club normally makes a weekend of this event, with camping on the Saturday night. We normally extend the invitation of camping to other clubs too, to make a fun night socialising with Austin/MG/Rover enthusiasts.
This will be the 18th Annual BMC/BL Rally and Spares Day. The show includes a autojumble. There will be pre-event camping and BBQ onsite the night before. If you are planning on showing your vehicle or camping then can you please let Nigel Haigh know so we have an idea of numbers.
