Re: What cambelt change intervals do you use?

I too have experienced a belt that expired at 38000 miles on a Ford Escort, never on a R8. The OEM belts were [in my experience] good for the mileage stated at least, that's 60,000 miles or every 5 years. I have documentary evidence within my fleet of them covering 70+ k miles before being changed. ...

You need to talk to Dist & Jonny 216gsi or try doing a search but it's not very good.

Re: Rough Idle

Noisy tappets? Clean air filter & spark plugs?

If you've sorted the ig'n, I would consider blocked injectors; a good slug of fuel injector cleaner at regular intervals, fill up at the ESSO/B.P/SHELL pumps and drive it.

Re: Southwest meetings 2019

Emissions testing certainly for petrol engined cars of our vintage have not changed. What may have changed is the fitment of cheap pattern components by owners! I've just noticed that oxygen sensors for D16 Twin Cams are no longer available, what are Rimmers playing at? :cursing

Re: R3 UK only?

What are they like in a crosswind on an exposed stretch of motorway? :S

I owned a very similar shaped little Mazda and it was lethal in crosswinds, couldn't do more than 50MPH without getting blown into the next lane. It taught me just how aerodynamic the simple '3 box shape' is.

Re: My car 214i Cabriolet

:welcome These are tough old cars! things to watch, which you're possibly aware of! are the window waist rail/seal and the hood frame links that snap I believe. I would invest in a decent hood cover at least, once the water finds a way in after a while, it quickly gets worse. I had a MGF that I park...

Re: rover 216 gti twin cam honda engine 5 door

86k isn't low miles in my book I have to ask, as this piqued my curiosity. What would you consider "low mileage" on a 28yr old car? It's done an average of 3,000 miles P.A, when 10-12k P.A. is usually considered "average" mileage. You would certainly not say a 3 year old car with 9,000 miles on it,...

Re: rover 216 gti twin cam honda engine 5 door

He's flogged the centre caps, there is no headlining [windscreen leak?], no drivers door lock/central locking and 86k isn't low miles in my book.

He at least tells you what's wrong with it to be fair though; I wouldn't buy another without inspecting the subframe first.

FS 214 SLi M488 VER

Night Fire Red
Needs a head gasket [ possibly] but still a bargain if you can diy! 55,000 miles, looks very straight.
