Re: Which things will kill our cars? Common faults?

A dead ECU will kill your car for sure, that is why I have three! This is the correct part No for a 1990 216GTi, Manual 5 speed, with no cat fitted. I guess that a cloned box may be possible? But will need to be mapped to one of several R8 ECU's out there. Has anyone done that? Sounds costly too. ht...

Re: Rear Spring - Rubber Ring - Need Advice

Thanks John

Might be able to use a rubber hose cut along its length.

Good excuse to replace the rear dampers as well.

See you Sunday

Re: Rear Spring - Rubber Ring - Need Advice

Thanks, Craig, yes it did look like it was just placed snug around the top coil of the spring.

No comment on it by the MOT'er; maybe he wiggled it.

It is about 4 ins in diameter, same size as the spring.

See you at Gaydon, unless it pours down!.

Rear Spring - Rubber Ring - Need Advice

After MOT in June (passed) this rubber fell out from above the offside spring top mounting. :blink What is the best way to replace it, can you get these parts? Or is it part of the top mounting repair plate that I see you can get online? (The car is a 1990 216GTi, 5 Door, DOHC) I guess would need to...

Re: MOT Fail - Why?

Yep, it is an asymmetric tyre, fitted the wrong way around, the label you can see clearly says 'inside' No one noticed it on my 2019 or 2020 MOT's, both passed with no advisories Been like this through the two MOT's since the wheels were powder coated in Feb 2019. Speedy Wheels did get 3 out of 4 ty...

MOT Fail - Why?

What's wrong with this picture? The car passed all-OK for the last 2 MOTs and then failed MOT this year?
Can you spot the problem?

Re: How many R8's left - do we have a definitive number?

Very Interesting ourcome, the number of 216GTi twin cams taxed and on-road has shot up to 23 now.

Do you mind if I post your analysis and numbers on the Rover GTi/Coupe Facebook page? Would be good to try and get these 23 cars identified.

Can you list the car's Regs?

I had a Mk 2 and Mark 3 Cortina, wish I had kept the Mk 3. Long gone Reg LAF 28, metallic blue, I rebuilt the engine.
Lived in Cornwall at the time and it would whistle me up to to Liverpool and back in the same day. Easy drive. :slapme
