Re: Plastic / Chrome trim

Even a 'new' insert may be somewhat brittle by now, so long after manufacture.
If you could wait for a warm day, you might have less chance of it snapping while setting it into position.

If enough people enquire about Unobtanium (offside), will they consider re-stocking?

Not so good news that the original functionality to query the stock database and discover local stockists has gone.

I am having trouble noticing the difference between the paint in the two ads. Would the car have had that colour coding when new?
Given its vintage, I would expect it left the Longbridge line with orange-tint rear light clusters, at least.

Re: Expansion tank

I took mine out, added a mix of engine degreaser fluid and small gravel, and shook it around.
The gravel took the muck off.

Re: Which head gasket to use

Others may disagree, but I'd be happy with one similar to this BGA one: http://www.inlinegarageservices.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/Rover-Kseries-modified-head-gasket.jpg While this is often described as a MLS gasket, I tend to think this is a misnomer, as there is only a single steel layer, an...

Did you get there? I looked the vehicle up again to day to help another enquiry - it's still listed as available!

Despite your reservations, it looks a lot more presentable than many!
That paint shade looks like 'White Gold'. As it's not particularly common, I think you'd have trouble finding a replacement wing which didn't need a repaint.

It would amount to discarding the moisture barrier. As 3-door door cards have a tendency to go soggy anyway, I wouldn't want to risk accelerating the process.

Not sure I'm going to make it this week but will try. Does anybody know if the 414 front sub-frames will be the same as my 1.6 K series Tourer? At least the bonnet's a 4-bolt job, quicker than any of mine were! I'm not sure you'll find a better one. The subframe is plain i.e. devoid of any stabilis...
