Re: 216GTi 5 door - breaking on ebay

Been down to collect driver's door and a couple of other bits and bobs. Very helpful chap - door was off, clean and waiting to be loaded into my car. He's still got most of it left including the other 3 white doors (recently listed on ebay), engine/box, 5 14" lattice wheels with lots of tread on the...

Re: Honda DOHC V SOHC Gearbox

It's all down to torque.... The Honda 1600 engine, and most other Japanese engines, doesn't have much torque at all and the torque peak is higher up the rev range - this explains why you've got to rev the nuts off them to go anywhere fast. These engines will have a shorter stroke and larger diameter...

Re: BRAND OF TYRES {Fitted When New/Suggested From ROVER}

Doh, and Pirelli, of course :slapme Be careful with budget tyres - you only find them wanting when it's too late. One of the major differences is seen in wet braking performance, which is pretty much everyday in the UK. Fortunately there are many useful websites for finding owners views before you b...

Re: BYE BYE 75

You've still got to finance the £15k.....

Either by borrowing it a several % or if you're paying cash, the loss of interest and/or increase in value you could gain by investing it somewhere else.

Worth taking this into account too.

Keep the faith !

Re: BRAND OF TYRES {Fitted When New/Suggested From ROVER}

Pretty sure it would have been restricted to Dunlop, Goodyear and Michelin.

Rover weren't very adventerous with tyre suppliers back then and (most of ) the 14" sizes were shared with Honda, who were ultra-cautious about suppliers generally.

Re: Warm re-start problem / fuel tank vacuum link ?

Time for a bit of an update..... The starting problem remains fixed but a spare relay is still in the glovebox. The 'comdey moooing' hasn't been heard for sometime but then it's been cold, so I think it's fuel expansion related. The annoying thing that remains is the engine hesitation - 1500-3000rpm...

Re: yellow dust stuff

It's an age thing that gets all of this type of foam eventually. My rooflining started to sag and I ended up scraping off a load of brown ( dark yellow ?) ex-foam, before sticking the lining back up with PVA glue....badly. It's also one of the reasons why seat material starts to 'bag' - there's less...

Re: Electric Sunroof has stopped working - why ?

Been back to my favourite scrappy, as they've recently had a 216 auto in, and found the control unit above the headlining , above the driver's sunvisor. 1 Phillips head screw secured its bracket onto the body. Now all I've got to do is be brave enough to have a go at taking my headlining out to fit ...

Re: Electric Sunroof has stopped working - why ?

I'm going to show my ignorance now and say "where's the motor ?" The good news (maybe) is that something 'clicks' somewhere, when I press the switch in either direction but my hearing isn't currently good enough ( I have man-flu...) to work out exactly where it's coming from. :mope ........and it's ...

Electric Sunroof has stopped working - why ?

Not that I really need it during the winter but my lecky sunroof has just stopped working and I'm trying to find out why. The 30A fuse looks OK and the mechanism isn't stuck - it happily winds manually in both directions but nothing happens when I press the button. My trusty Haynes manual wiring dia...
