AGM 2017 Gaydon

#1 Post by Liverpoolman1 » Sat Aug 12, 2017 12:07 pm

I noticed in The Viking that the AGM is on Sunday 15th October at Gaydon. What time is it due to start?

and how come gaydon and not coventry.

I'm not arguing, i'm not a fan of coventry (nothing personal if you live there) but if at gaydon, i'll pop down.

COVENTRY !! Coventry ? -it's a good job I asked as I was just about to book an hotel in Stratford-upon-Avon for the weekend. So that puts a completely different complexion on it. Was going to take in Coriolanus at the RSC - but Coventry! May stay at home and polish the car.

But isn't Coventry closer to those coming from 'up Northhh' ? :laughing2

Then again last year it cost me a £40 fine for driving in the bus lane cos I got lost :boom

Coventry is only 20 miles from Stratford. If you haven't been to Coventry Transport Museum, you should. It is excellent and it's free. If you come to the AGM in a club car you can park outside the front of the museum for free as well!

Since we returned to Coventry, what two or three years ago now, the club has always achieved a massive turnout. With lots of people attending the AGM plus folk and cars who just want to display their Rovers on the Plaza and chat and have a good day out.

The inner ring road can be confusing, but I don't use a satnav, it's easy to get to via the motorway network too.

In the past AGM's at Gaydon have attracted about 6 or 8 of us and that was including spouses! :blushing

Thanks for that Mr Teddy Bear. You have sold me the idea of attending at Coventry. So what time does the AGM usually start? Will look up hotels and get me and the good lady booked in. Seriously though, what are the facilities for disabled like at the Coventry venue? My good lady has a small electric scooter and we have been caught out at many venues where the disabled facilities were sadly lacking.

SatNav did you say? - not in a 20 year old Rover!

The Committee will decide on a start time, probably early afternoon, bearing in mind that they close 16:30 ish . A busy AGM takes a good 2 hours plus and the nights will be drawing in as the clocks revert to GMT on 30th Oct.

It's a good day out in a central location that most people can reach, I even make it from Bristol! :)

Regarding disabled facilities I believe that the entrance is flat no steps and there is a lift up to the first floor, however I've never used it so I would check their website and/or phone them to confirm.

It is usually a 2pm start for the AGM but it depends on when the room is available. Hopefully our secretary will confirm shortly. With regards disabled access, there are ramps in the museum and as Tim said, a lift to the first floor. It is in the centre of the city with easy access into the shopping area. We will issue parking access instructions with the AGM notice nearer the time. It is quite easy from the inner ring road (when you know) but it is easy to stray on to the bus lanes if you are not careful!

Have taken the plunge and booked into a swanky hotel in S-on-A for 2 nights. Also booked for the RSC for a bit of intellectual stimuli. Most probably won't understand it but the grey matter needs a workout.

Will travel over on Sunday morning so another test of the grey matter may be the bus lane in Coventry - thanks for the tip on that. We are hoping to get from S-on-A to Coventry early to run the gauntlet of the bus lane and also take in the motor museum. Looking forward to further AGM info and a relaxing weekend.

Did someone mention Satnav? What's that? - just dug out my 2003 copy of the Collins Road Atlas to plan the A roads route. Can't do with these new fangled motorways, don't y'know.
