FS: Ebay. 214SLi M reg, 55K, Weston Super Mare £300 damaged front suspension

What a shame. The car has hit something in the road pretty substantial on the near side front and it's broken the subframe (I assume the steering rack one...) and the steering rack and lower arm are fouling on it.

It could need a complete new near side suspension and sub-frame - but otherwise the car looks lovely - in NFR and a late reg., so it'll have the SLi velour fabric, airbag, fobs, electric everything, etc. Nicest SLi wheel trims too.

Needs trailoring away :mouthshut Wonder if this one is going to make it...

It does deserve it, considering the condition of its wheel arches. 'Just' spanner work between it and survival!

Yep - looks absolutely unmarked everywhere - no lacquer peel, no rust.

What a shame if it doesn't survive...

But not at £300 :scared

You could buy another one in full running order for not much more!

It's a £100 spares car, value-wise

The fuel lines are insecure as an advisory on the MOT, with a comment 'DANGEROUS' - just a bit!

Would need looking at for potential structural damage in addition to the 'replaceable components'?

Fair enough. Still a huge shame. It was somebody's pride and joy, clearly. Maybe I'm just taken with how the NFR paint is gleaming in the sunshine :sad

That, and the lack of rust, is what caught my eye too. NFR seems particularly prone to lacquer peel for some reason.
I guess they'll give it a few days before putting in an insurance claim and having it written off. Maybe it'll pop up on a Coparts site in due course!

Managed to get a few photos indicating only some of the damage (mostly only the sub-frames). Looks like it's hit something tall enough to impact the front sub-frame on the side at some appreciable speed. The third photo shows the extent of the impact. Looks like the car has been laid up for some time, presumably with the owner wondering what to do with it - as it's all gone rusty.

In the first photo, that's the radius rod end showing in the torn-away "cup" mounting in the sub-frame.

It's damaged the steering rack subframe too (second photo) - so the energy was dissipated in the front sub-frame impact and the car drove over the object, then bumped down and it impacted the brake pipes.

Knuckle, driveshaft and damper presumably okay.

Needs:
Both front sub-frames for a K series car.
Radius rod, washers, nut (rubber damping cups too?)
Track rod
Tie rod end and nut.
Front lower arm.
Flexible pipe to front calliper and/or underside brake pipe(s).

Could need:
New steering rack
Front ARB, mounts and mount rubber, and bolts

Highly likely knowing you. But it's "only" a 214SLi, so what are the chances someone will take you up on the offer?

I'll say it again - what a shame :sad

That’s just a simple rip out and replace.

I'm pretty sure this car was for sale on a salvage auction with the exact same damage a few months ago so this seller may have bought it and decided not to do the work. Think its made my mind up that I might as well just scrap my identical car as it needs the tank taking out to replace the fuel pump which when I looked it it today is going to be a pain due to rusted bolts etc and a head gasket job. I've got all the bits just don't think its worth the effort now.

Can't be the same one - MOT test certificate shows MOT on 29th April, so a week ago! Unless he'd been driving it with the damage and not even bothered to find out why it had been scrapped, which is entirely possible :laughing2

Think it was mentioned on here if I can find the post again, he might have just booked the test to risk driving it home *laughs*.

Well done for tracking down the photographic evidence.

Even I've got all those bits! (And I have to keep moving them out of the way.)
Are there any photos illustrating the MOT concerns about the rear suspension and fuel lines?

Simple answer is no. What I actually did was message the seller through Ebay and they sent me pics via "whatsapp" on my phone (I've finally joined the 21st century) which I managed to extract to the phone's storage by sending them to a graphics editor app and saving them. I didn't know what was going to arrive, and those are the only 3 I got. I'd suggest if this is whetting your appetite (or anyone elses) you get in touch via Ebay messaging and request a specific photo. They don't have ramp access by the way, so it'll be a "hold the phone under the car and press the button" kind of photo - and you're likely to only be able to receive what they send if you've got whatsapp or imessenger installed on your smart phone.

I hadn't realised it has caught the rear suspension too - but I've just re-read the MOT failure and noticed the third point on the "repair immediately" list :sad

Unlikely to be the trailing arm metalwork as it's so substantial? It says "body mounting distorted" so maybe it's the trailing arm bush or the bush(es) in the smallest front compensator arm or camber arm??
