VVC Inlet Manifold

#1 Post by Rovernut » Fri Dec 30, 2016 9:19 am

I am still being plagued with coolant loss on my 416 Tourer. :sad

Its losing about a pint a week now with no sign of external or internal leakage. Pressure test showed nothing, but early morning exhaust "steam" is excessive.

As it had a head gasket fitted twelve months ago I am planning to try a VVC type manifold before removing the head again.
I understand there are two types.. one marked vvc and the other plain.

Which one should I source?

Thanks

Chris

Chris visited the holy chapel today and luckily stopped him wasting time on needless fixes.

Far to many mechanics diagnosing HGF and just swapping gaskets rather than finding out what caused the problem in the first place.

Stunning car (when washed) and grea to chat with.

So what did you diagnose, or should the verb be 'divine' ?

Unfortunately, after hearing what had been done previously i suspect its dropped liner on one of the pistons and previous gaskets being used without the saver shim. now wrong gasket as head has been skimmed numerous times, so i suspect that the reason for the excessive water consumption is relative to water getting in via the fire ring on the dropped cylinder which may be as simple as getting it shimmed (as a bodge).

The if it was me solution was buy another engine and rebuild and uprate it to n-series spec and when done drop it in but that sits in the £800-1K mark.

Next option, just drop another engine in.

and final option, get the liners reset in the original engine.
