Yes I will get them to fix it but what about getting money back..? do you have any ideas as to why there could be a loss of power/next to no acceleration in 2nd?

you need to know whats been charged for and why they saw fit to screw you blind on the price.

Like i said, £1k is a rebult engine, removal and fitting.

If you budgeted for the cost, don’t worry about the outlay, but they should leave you with a working car. I’d take it back and advise them of the issue and ask them to fix. You shouldn’t have to pay anymore money in my view.

i definitely wont be paying any more money! but i agree that the price is too high seeing as they did not refurbish the engine in any way or even check it the +£1k is ridiculous. Im going to ask for £500 back and see where that gets me

Might it be worth asking them to fix the 2nd gear issue first?

What ECU are you running with now? Your original one?

Might be able to do a chip/tune map swap from the A8 catted ECU into your. Loss of power could be the tune map - engine load, revs, etc. and what it does to the injector firing pattern. I.e. could just be the difference between the A9 tune map in the ECU you're probably running and the A8 engine it's driving. And you can't fit the A8 ECU because it's expecting lambda, etc.

I'd need to buy a PC-based EPROM programmer and a couple of 27C256 EPROMs, but they're around and not much money. Might take me a week or two to get set up, but I'm sure this is possible.

Unless you know someone heavily into electronics or Honda ODB0 tuning that could do this for you.

Yeah running the original ecu. ok yeah i understand. that would be great, if you let me know once youre up and running with the program and maybe we can sort something out cheers man. Have just looked at the honda d series wiki and i think the d16a9 is obd1 actually: ECU Code: (P29 OBD1), but that could be wrong?

Not important. Essentials are that the ECU is essentially the same, save for same emissions control inputs for the A8 engine. The basic values for how long and when the injectors are fired are stored in the same type of memory chip, in the same locations. Ergo, you should be able to swap one with another.
