Fitment - struts and driveshafts. R8 214.

#1 Post by Matt214sei » Sat Feb 24, 2018 8:35 pm

Good evening all, I'm hoping that someone is going to have to knowledge to help me out here, before I make a potentially expensive mistake.

I have started to notice wear on my NS / gearbox side driveshaft, it has also began to clunk occasionally whilst driving, so can only be a matter of time.

Also the front suspension struts are becoming a little tired.

What I'm wondering is if the items from a 1.4 ZR would fit directly onto my car?

Fingers crossed someone has already tried this and will have an answer to help me.

Best regards, Matt. :cool

Im using ZR 160 shocks and springs on my 220GSI so i think the strut assemblies should be a straight swap. Not so sure on the drive shafts. The 1.4 ZR and 25s all had the R65 box until early 2003, then they switch to the IB5 unit for all of the 1.4 MGR vehicles.
My Rovers to date:
1994 Rover 220GSI in Tahiti blue (On the road)
2002 MG ZR 105 in Solar red (On loan)
1995 214i (On SORN)

Both mate, the early 1.4 25 and ZR has the R65 then the later models had the FORD IB5, it may have come in at
the Mk2 introduction but could have been slightly earlier when they were at the last stage of the Mk1 from 2002
onwards when they put the different dash in the 25 Mk1 as they deleted the fake wood (25) & silver trim (ZR)
apature and had different fabrics on the door cards, they also added the ZR dark style headlights on the later
Mk1 25 too.
