1.4 to 1.8 engine

does anyone know if a 1.8 zs engine with the later ford box with fit in a 1994 cabriolet . head gasket gone on mind and as it the early engine I think I'm going to up grade . !!!

as long as its the mems 1.9 and not the mems 3 engine you'll be fine.

thank you for that , the difference from the two pictures is the cam cover that as a rounded edge looking at the front , looking at a 53 plate zs car to used to up grade of would I be better with a mgf engine and box .



do you know what year the mems were used until or is there a no there way of identification? :D

I have been thinking about doing the same thing but using a 1.8 engine from a early MGF as i know of a good engine locally but gearbox to use :unsure .

The MGF gearbox is no use unfortunately, the linkage is the wrong way round so keep that in mind. ;)

You'd need the linkage from a PG1 equipped car I'd imagine but there are plenty of those about.

Would I be right in thinking that MEMS 3.0 came in when the Rover 25 was launched? (Distributorless ignition)

If so, a good source of earlier 1.8 engines would be the R3 (bubble) 218 iS: there should still be a few of them left :wink3

thinking that you buy the later rover 25 car complete and transfer the wiring and ecu with gearbox etc , what does anyone think of that ?

your car won't talk to it.

r8's only went up to mems 1.9, modern engines are mems 3.

you could swap the wiring and ecu because basically you changing everything from to donor car , alot of work i know or you could put your old dizzy on and run the old system being all the head are the same :D :D :D
