MGF Steering Wheel to R400

#1 Post by The Origina lNom » Sat Jun 29, 2019 2:04 pm

Following a change from a standard HHR Rover 400 to MGF steering wheel, it seemed that I have lost self cancelling.
I deduced that behind the 400 wheel is a cancelling ring that did not fit the slot in the rear of the MG steering wheel (MGF wheel has slots at 12 and 6 O'clock while Rover 400 has slots at 9 and 3) and the depths of the wheel's splined shaft were different.

I bought an indicator/lights unit and 'cancelling unit for an MGF to get 'the clockspring '. to line up.

I ended up using the MGFF cancelling ring and ground out the Rover 400 white nylon part with a grinding attachment.I then glued the clockspring into this self adapted sleeve having measured the depth of the original depth position against the R400 wheel.. I abandoned using the MGTF indicator and light stalk body.
I am very pleased with the look as the MGF MK1 steering wheel has the MG logo on the black airbag cover.
