My local body man has resprayed two cars for me lately.

MK1 Fiesta-including much dent removal and fitting/modifying a new door, colour change to Fireblade orange pearl, door edges too-cost £500

Porsche 924-including even more dent removal, replacing nosecone (Welded on) front wing and bonnet. Full colour change to met.yellow-cost £650

He reckons he can do my cabby (Dent removal again!) in the same Tahiti Blue for about £400-possibly less.

Oh, and these jobs arent quick blowovers with knacker laquer. Not glass out I grant you, but really good quality.

I'd love to know how he's doing it for that little. My 420 cost getting on for that much in paint and materials alone, and thats without factoring in labour for dealing with the tin worm before they could even think about putting paint on the thing.

All I can add to this, from experience, is you get what you pay for with bodywork. Most of the cost is paying for the experience guys that do the work.

i agree with tom on this one . you get what u pay for .

and again i have 2 accounts of experience with this .

1 being a get rid of rot job and change colour costing around 1500 with me doing alot of the work.

2: having a friend spray a bran new shell costing 600 pound for a primered shell with a tad bit of welding, it then cost me another 600 for boot bonnet doors and wings etc .

and these where all bran new parts requiring very little prep.

Hang on chaps-you havent seen the job this guy has done on my cars! Granted, he's probably a one off but the quality of his work and the finish is excellent. Not concours, but not a "blow over" by any means! Of course, his prices are trade, but seeing as how I'm trade, that isnt a problem to people I know.... :wink3
Anyone is welcome to come and have a look.

Not my choice mate-the car belongs to my good lady wife and she loves those wheels. (Team Dynamics "Racelite" forged alloys incidentally.)

good looking cars youve got there. you do get what you pay for but if you know someone in the trade and they will do a good price for you, why not.

Hi JohnW and Carl,

Any chance you could ask your friends about a respray on my racer?

Top half white, bottom half re-cover of the Tahiti, all panels pre stripped from car, and to be supplied back like that (to keep labout down), and not too much prep work, bar stone chips, and a couple of small dints.

I'm after getting it sprayed, but local I'm looking at silly money, which I see no point in doing as its a race car and will suffer chips quickly, but still want a reasonable job doing.

Dave
