Passenger Window Size?

#1 Post by Renoized » Thu Nov 03, 2016 2:05 pm

Sooooo, someone broke into my car today, smashed the passenger window. That'll teach me to leave my backpack in the car.

Anyway, I need to replace it, looking around I can find a few, but I'm not sure about the size of the window. Can someone knowledgeable here please tell me if the passenger window size is the same for 3 door and 5 door models? (I have a 3 door 214i from '99)

Thanks!

No, it isn't. At least on the R8 (200 series '89 to '95) it isn't. The 3-door windows are much wider. Not sure about the R3/bubble from '96 on but I assume the same applies.

R3 (bubble shape 200 from 1996 onwards and Rover 25, MGZR etc) have longer windows in the front doors for 3-door models than are used on the 5-door models.

Luckily for you, all R3s are an easy find in breakers yards at the moment (although not as common as they were a couple of years ago), so you should have little difficulty in obtaining a replacement :)

As it's my trade, I can get any glass that you need from my wholesaler. You don't say where you are, but they have depots all round the country and you can pick up from any of them.
Drop me a line if I can help.

Yes, but I assume most of the R8 glass is now NLA - windows, rear glass, etc. ?

No, not correct. Green tinted windows are still available, and quite a few clear glasses too!
There's not a lot, but I can do a few window sets if required.
