Body Trim Panel Contact Tape

#1 Post by ROVER-25X » Sun Feb 11, 2018 11:17 am

I noticed on my interior panels and rub strips that they
have a thin strip of one sided contact tape, I just had a
quick look on Rimmers but I can't find any, can anyone
recommend a replacement as I was just going to use
some 6mm foam tape but it all seems to be double
sided, I could always leave the backing tape on the back.

Hi,

If it is a film like double sided tape, pop to any motor factor/car paint supplier such as Morelli, Mill Auto etc & ask for 3M-6506 Refix tape.

If you mean the thin black tape that stops the squeaks from where Interior trim butts together, I think it's called 'Felt tape'. Im after some myself but i have no idea who sells it.

Single-sided foam tape - you need to look on Ebay or suppliers like RS components, Rapid electronics, Farnell, etc. They do a *huge* range. I've been buying a mix of foam tape and neoprene rubber strips off Ebay. I'm using a high-temperature double-sided 3M adhesive tape but I also find the GT Pro / Ultratape double-sided tape a good way of making one side adhesive and it is extremely sticky.

It's a matter of using your imagination - anything is possible - even say a thin sheet of waterproof fabric, polyester or acrylic felt and a double-sided adhesive tape on the other side to make it sticky. I don't have any hard-and-fast rules and I've used lots of different combinations.

Right I just had a look on ebay chaps, that M3 tape doesn't really look like what I need but I found felt tape.

China special, 15 metres long for a couple of quid: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/15m-Car-Vehi ... SwoYhaJoRL

UK Anti-Squeak Tape, 25mm wide and 500mm long: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ANTI-SQUEAK-A ... Swy1NaXl5f

Might get both.
