Just bought a 45 V6 Connie...

#1 Post by clayts450 » Mon May 28, 2018 7:22 pm

...for £250 off that there eBay, sight unseen.

Few very minor issues (no back seat cushions, SRS light, creaking brakes, slight dent to osr) but in the grand scheme of things a total bargain. Drove the 60 miles home very nicely, thank you please :)

I didn't know those bars were used throughout the later car ranges as well. I know it's all about the adapter kits but I thought it was pretty much 200/400 (to 95) and 800, and that's all.

Not sure what the back story is on these, may have been an aftermarket mod by previous but one owner

They are genuine Rover roof bars (made by Thule) sold as accessories at Rover dealers but we're expensive at the time so are quite rare. Some dealers had them fitted on showroom cars for display.

No, they were made by Automaxi, a French company. The locks use a Ronis key.

Automaxi belong to the Mont Blanc group of companies now, and I don't think they still make these bars - which is a shame given how substantial and adaptable they are.

Can't complain for £250, would have made a great donor to make a V6 Coupe !

On another note, I have a set on non-genuine 400/45/ZS roof bars for sale if anyone wants them. :laughing2

SRS light sorted - the same bug which afflicts 75s - yellow connectors under the front seats - unplug battery, leave 10 mins, undo connecters, squirt contact cleaner in there, put them back together again, reconnect battery, fire her up - SRS light pops up on start up, and goes off after a few seconds. Quick win.

The creaking brakes not so good - the offside rear wheel gets very hot even on a 6 mile commute (and to think I did 60 miles in it last week), so wheel off yesterday, outside pad more or less completely gone, and the back metal plate was in bits and dropped out. Annoyingly the bottom guide pin bolt is rusted solid.

Looking at it, it's most likely just the guide pin itself which is jammed up, rather than the piston itself, so I'm just waiting on some new bolts, pins and boots from eBay as I may have to get quite destructive to get the bottom bolt off. And obviously fit the new pads as well.

Currently on the naughty step - it was nice to waft into work in this lovely old bus on my commute, but hugely uneconomical. Back to the Streetwise tomorrow...

There's a tatty 45 V6 Club on eBay for £200. Can't shift it for some reason, they've had it at least six months, routinely dropping the price every month or so. It started out at about £375.

What's this about roof bars? I could possibly use some.
