Another MSN slideshow special:

The "Rover 200" makes no. 6 with 630,000 on the road in 1995. Beaten (apparently) by the Astra, Sierra, Cavalier, Fiesta and yes, you guessed it, the Escort with 1.9 million.

When I bought my Mk. 4 escort in 1992 I did so on the basis that the common tastes of a couple of million people couldn't be wrong. They were!

Don't forget the MK4 Escort is not much changed from the MK3 which came out in 1980 so by 1992 it had well had its day. I must say tho I've had every mark of Escort in various specs and there all great cars in there respective times but I'd choose my MK3 83 XR3I over a R8 whatever the circumstances. After that be the MK5a RS2000 for my owners listed I do regret not buying a 93 Cosworth then I had the chance just to say I'd had ownership of one. I'm quite sure that at the time in question my dad would have had the XR4I

Link isn't working for me.

My dad had a D reg Capri 1.6 Laser in 1995! He constantly ran ten year old mid-range cars.

My Dad was driving a poverty spec L-reg Rover 214i in 1995.

It was a far cry from his previous Rover, a J-reg 214 SLi which was much more plush.

He changed it because the monthly finance was less on the new L reg than it was on the 18 month old J reg.
that is even though the L reg was purchased new and the J reg was an ex hire car.

I think my old man had a Citroen BX in 95...one of a string of Citroens that included a CX Familiale.

I did pass on my Maestro Clubman Diesel to him in about 98 though......

Well, my dad was one of the 630,000 R8 drivers!

He retired at the end of 1994 and treated himself to a new Nightfire 216 SLi with optional alloys, R950 head unit and aircon :cool

Nowadays he has a highly-specced Honda Civic automatic. And the 216 forms part of my signature on this forum :wink3
