Offer of club stand at Restoration Show - NEC 28/29th March

#1 Post by GTiJohn » Sun Feb 15, 2015 4:09 pm

Waiting on my recently recovered club email inbox was an invite to have a free club show stand at this show http://www.necrestorationshow.com/show-features

It arrived 9 days ago when the offer was for 20 free stands but a subsequent email said 5 of those had gone already.

These are the clubs showing - http://www.necrestorationshow.com/class ... clubs-2015 The premise of the show may be a little too far away from our cars - eg restoration - but a free stand at the NEC is a decent offer.

I'm already spoken for that weekend so can't be involved except for passing on any of the club display stuff in my garage.

Would anybody like to take this on?

Just spotted that the Metro and Maestro/Montego OCs are due to be there, so there'll be good company :laughing2

OK, less than 6 weeks to go, but here's an idea.

Could we get a car with HGF on the stand and repair it over the weekend?

It might make a change from the body repair themes that many clubs are likely to be doing (although I did hear a rumour that one of the Alfa Romeo clubs is going to try and get the electric windows working on one of their cars by the end of the weekend :wink3 )
And let's face it, R8s don't have a massive reputation for going rusty.

Additionally, how about a headlining refurbishment?

Or, would anybody like to do a suspension lowering and brake upgrade project?

Just a few ideas :)

Not sure about this one feel as if we wouldn't fit in

Head repair is a good idea but we all know the NEC is funny about fluids and its a not a clean job

The break upgrade and suspension is a better idea

If fact all my front end suspension , lower arms etc... needs changing :laughing2

joking aside, i do have a tourer nasp with a really oil engine to be replaced with a shiny clean turbo engine. showing how easily you can go from shitty old banger to show car in 24 hours.

I'm liking the ideas for a paid-for, indoor 'fix it day' ! :clapping

If you can commit the time, we can request a stand. But we have to be sure

OK, I am guessing this one has fizzled out.... :mope

But if any club members want a free show ticket, have a look in the 'club members' part of the forum :D

Clearly we can't get anything together for this year, but I would really like us to work towards participating in 2016 - if there's enough support from other members. There must be plenty of 'project' cars out there among our membership? Surely we could find a few jobs we could be getting on with in public view? Perhaps if we can get a 'fix-it' group meeting within the club then something could be worked towards for next time. I can start the ball rolling with my 2 rotting hulks. If the Mary Rose was worth all that effort then I'm sure a Tourer is of equal historic interest.

I'm hoping to find time to go along as a visitor anyway. If there are any others going maybe we could meet up on the day.
Cheers,

Duncan

I am sure that Duncan and Tim will agree that there wasn't much restoration going on on many of the club stands this year.

Some clubs seemed to have just put on a display of cars that wouldn't have been considered good enough for the November show, but still looked ok.

So, (here's forward planning for you!) I will apply for a club stand next year and I am sure that with a little effort we can put on a very useful/interesting display.

i have an idea that may be interesting.

I now have a 216 bare engine that we can put on a stand and show the head gasket replacement at regular show times like 11:00 13:00 and 15:00 obviously not tightening the stretch bolts completely.

That's right! some club's were genuinely doing job's. Having said that, I think I saw two! the RSR were doing a clutch change on a P6 3500 and I think a TVR[?] club were doing a front suspension change.

So the big question, what are we up for? :laughing2

K Series engine stripp and rebuild?

who is going to do it

who is going to bring their tools and other questions not yet thought of? :oops
