Practical Classics Restoration Show, NEC, 5-6 March 2016

#1 Post by 220 GSi turbo » Tue Nov 17, 2015 10:16 pm

Well, ok, the full name is "Practical Classics Restoration & Classic Car Show" but I couldn't fit it all in the title bar! :laughing2

I have applied for space at this one (and I am fairly sure we will be given a stand) and discussed a possible theme last weekend with a few people.

The main attraction is likely to be a stripped K-series engine and we just need to support it with a couple of suitable cars. Any volunteers? A 400 saloon or Tourer would be really useful, as we haven't displayed one in recent memory.

The overall idea of the show is to have something with work actually taking place, as well as some static exhibits. Anybody fancy having a go at some suspension work?
Or perhaps a little production line of Honda fuel relays :wink3

Hi Paul. As discussed, I am more than happy to volunteer my rather poorly Tourer to have an on site engine swap (and anything else we want to do. The swapped out engine could then be the one that gets stripped if we want. I will, of course, be happy to pay for any parts fitted during the show. The problem is going to be getting a dead car there, complete with replacement engine. There is plenty more that needs doing to it and suspension (rear at least) is probably another job, as well as power steering rack. Really depends how far we want to go with it. Alternatively we can work on an even more dead 216 GSi D14.

Oh what fun.

Contract is signed, and we are definitely IN :)

I have been giving some thought to a 'supporting act' for our main mechanical overhaul theme.

Anybody fancy doing some serious detailin? Preferably with a car that is scruffy and faded at the start of the show, but will look fantastic by Sunday night (anybody got a red one that has gone dull with age, bleached grey bumpers etc?)
We won't have electricity, so lots of vacuuming or powered polishing won't be possible, but plenty of elbow grease (and peanut butter for the bumpers!) can be used :thumbup1

Duncan and I plan to get a K-series engine there and do a strip and rebuild, including measurement of liner height etc

Neither of us have done a lot of spannering on a K-series before, so plenty of learning opportunities there :wink3 And if Howard is reading this, I will be in touch soon!

If nobody else wants to bring a detailing project along (and we would really like them to!), I might take my GSi Turbo in for the weekend and do a few 'bumper off' jobs that I haven't got around to doing over the years. Maybe I won't have rainwater in the boot after that!

As discussed in other part of forum I could bring it along maybe although my bumpers may be pretty close to done by then. Engine wise I haven't done a lot yet and there's always the rust!!
I'm new to all this so unsure :sad

Our stand is located in Hall 9, not far from the live stage.

We share an 'island' with the Rover 800 club and the P6 Rover Owners' Club.

To ensure we have enough tickets for staff and helpers, I have booked for three cars to go on our stand..... :)

Does anybody have a Cabriolet that needs a roof change? Ideal dry and warm(ish) environment to do it in!
