Northern Tour AKA The Border Raiders August 6th and 7th 2016

Postby Raider » Sat Dec 05, 2015 12:16 pm

Hi all,

AS an Area Organiser for Club Triumph I am also one of the organisers of a two day driving tour of the North of England and South of Scotland. This year it will be on Saturday August 6th and Sunday 7th starrting at Kelbrook in Lancashire (near Burnley), overnight in Dumfries and returning for prize giving to Kelbrook at about 5PM on the Sunday.

Although it's organised by us in Club Triumph I have always made sure there is room for other makes too of an "interesting/sporting" nature. Given that I have the say on what that is if anoyone wants to enter a 200 or 400 there wouldn't be a problem other than places will be limited to 30 with 20 intially reserved for Club Triumph members.

The entry forms and "regs" are not available yet and probably won't be for some time yet but if you are interested I strongly suggest you book at either the Premier Inn Dumfries (where most will be staying) or the nearby Travellodge for the night of Saturday August 6th. We had lots of problems finding places to stay the same weekend last year, hence starting organisation much earlier.

Further info for possible accomodation in Dumfries is here
http://www.dumfries-and-galloway.co.uk/accommodation/

Note that the event starts and finishes at

The Old Stone Trough, Colne Road, Kelbrook, Lancashire, BB18 6XY. Telephone 01282 844844.

Rooms at £50 for 2 people sharing B&B on Friday night August 6th and £35 on Sunday Night August 7th.

Please note that Friday August 6th is the Pendle and Pennine Area's normal meeting night and will be featuring a BBQ along with a Gymkhana where you would be pushed to spend more than £10 if you enjoyed both!

Finally these are the eligilibility info -

Eligibility:

The event is open to all members and non members of Club Triumph Ltd.

Car eligibility:

The event is open to the following:-
a) Crews of two or more in any Standard (the manufacturer) or Triumph car.
b) Crews of two or more in any car that was in production by the end of 1991 (the make and model, not the specific car).
c) Crews of two or more in any sporting car produced later than 1992 at the organiser's discretion.

There won't be a problem for R8s or SD3s and I am sure I could approve Bubbles too :laughing2

Entry fee wil be £30 or less if I can possibly make it less.

Full entry documentation etc should be available in about a month

Attached are the regulations for the event including application form.

I have had someone read it for me and we think there are no date errors etc.

There's lots of information in there which should cover most questions.

I am issuing the documentation now so that everyone has the best chance of securing accomodation in Dumfries to their liking. :)

AS seen on the last page of the Viking :D

I promise not to bore everyone with unnecessary posts but will probably bring everyone up to date on a monthly basis.

As of this morning here are the entries to date.

Those with a car number against them have actually sent in an entry form with payment, the others are people who have told me they have booked accomodation so are intending to enter.

1. Tom Dromgoole & Marianne Dromgoole MGF
2. Les Hirst & Pam Nicholls TR7V8
3. Chris & Sarah Reynolds TR7V8

Ian and Carol Harling Dolomite 1300
Jane and Mike Charlton A bag of Spitfire bits MK3
Bruce Garbutt & A N Other -GT6
Steve Povey/Kathy Clements - Vitesse or Herald

29. Hank & Denise Hall Mk2 2000 (could end up being a Mini Mayfair)
30. Martin & Deana Randle TR7 (could end up being my Rover 214i)

The last two entries are using cars from my fleet :laughing2 Hence why there's a bit of flexibility.

I have just emailed the information to around 12 motorsports clubs in the north of England and Scotland who come under the banner of "NESCRO" - Club Triumph are part of this.

Latest prior to them receiving this info is as below

1. Tom Dromgoole & Marianne Dromgoole MGF
2. Les Hirst & Pam Nicholls TR7V8
3. Chris & Sarah Reynolds TR7V8
4. Steve Povey & Kathy Clements - Vitesse Convertible
5. Chris Rabbets & Valerie Moores - 2.5PI
6. Jane and Mike Charlton - Spitfire MK3

Ian and Carol Harling Dolomite 1300
Bruce Garbutt & A N Other -Stag

29.Hank & Denise Hall Mk2 2000
30. Martin & Deana Randle TR7

As you can see this is an event popular with couples as it is fun driving but not competitive :)

I loaned my 214i to some friends to use on this event whilst I used my TR7.

Here they are being waved away from the start by myself

And in the line up for the restart at Dumfries where the Rover certainly doesn't look out of place
Image

The car did just over 400 miles in two days over the north of England and south west Scotland averaging 38.7MPG :)

As my friend said, it never put a foot wrong and he loved the car! :clapping
