I'm after a short two post Car Lift

#1 Post by ROVER-25X » Tue Feb 20, 2018 7:19 pm

As the title suggests, I am looking for a short 2 post Car Lift as I have a height limit with my new garage that
is getting build this year and I find most of them are like 9ft high, I need 6ft tops, I have found one short lift
from Max Jax but its £2600 !

Too rich for my blood but take a looks and if anyone can point me out a cheaper one or an alternative i'd really
appreciate it, I might have to look a specialist garage equip suppliers but that brings more expense i'd say.

You don't really need anything other than an engine crane with the height you'll be looking at, so just dig a pit and you'll have all the access you need.

Don't dig a pit without considering the risks! :o

A lot of people have died in vehicle pits in much the same way as grain silos and slurry pits. To indulge in a little black humour it would be cheaper and far less effort to simply leave the [petrol] engine running and pipe the exhaust into the cabin while settling down with a good book!

A vehicle pit will fill with exhaust fumes that are heavier than air and quickly kill you once you've stepped into it. The 'Confined Spaces Regulations' need to be studied and applied if you want to live.

My advice don't dig a pit.

Pits - too true - avoid them like the plaque - too many people fallen down them or gassed themselves. Stick to a ramp they are great investments.

Can't have a pit as I have a foul pipe running down the drive and a main surface water down the road way, not got
the depth to have one.

I don't like the idea of that single post, I did look at it but it looks like it puts too much pressure on the wheels and if
it isn't fitted properly it could be a nasty accident, similar thoughts to a tilt, I considered one but I wan't all four wheels
off the ground, might have to sell my 4th kidney.

Keep the ideas coming folks.

Watch ebay carefully - four post ramps come up cheap and single phase sometimes - can be as little as £200 and working order. Not that hard to dis-assemble into a large transit but takes a day to strip them if you do. Better to drop the deck onto a car trailer and load posts on top. Pay more and get wheels free version and you have same access as two post but it takes up more room plus you get a tool bench below the car!

Yeah I will do mate, I remember the old school garage my Dad used in his Avenger, Mk1 Cavalier and Mk2 Astra days,
he had 2 four posts and they were not huge.
