Re: Gearbox advice 220 turbo

Hi, No I'm not tbh, I've never had gearbox noises until this issue, but have described it to a pg1 box rebuilder literally just now on the phone, and he said it sounds very much like input shaft bearing. He has a PG1 gearbox with standard C6, U spec gear ratios I'm interested in ( if I do actually n...

Gearbox advice 220 turbo

Hi all, Regarding my car, a '94 220 gsi turbo hatch, owned by me since May '97.... I think it may need a gearbox rebuild, as I'm getting noise from what I think is the diff bearing (torsen type A) or the input shaft bearing. This is not certain but it's what I suspect after discussing it with a trust...

Re: New suspension for '94 220 gsi Turbo hatch

Thank you so much chaps for the helpful advice/info, especially Johnny with the very long posts, much appreciated. Plenty for me to consider then, and just as well I wouldn't tackle this until next Spring, as it looks like I'll need to do quite a bit of researching regarding what parts I buy if I go ...

New suspension for '94 220 gsi Turbo hatch

Hi All, My car is on 146k and in very good nick but it still has all original suspension, shocks, springs, everything. I was thinking of possibly changing the lot next Spring, ideally for as similar a set up as possible to how it came out of the factory. 1.Is it worth bothering, no suspension related...

Re: Rover 220GSI MOT fail

Hi, I had exactly this 5 years ago on mine, if you have Facebook, click this link and scroll through my pics, you'll find some pics of the (quite involved) repair, with comments that will hopefully be useful. It's metal fatigue as stated already. I got the insert made up my someone on the Rovertech fo...

Re: Rover 220 turbo water pump questions

Thanks for the replies, I fitted the new pump,it went okay but not refilled it/ tested it yet, I'm pretty sure I've done a good job on it though so fingers crossed all will be well.
I fitted it to the housing as pictured in my last photo, ie. no grease.

Re: Rover 220 turbo water pump questions

I've got the old pump out, that took quite a while, but luckily no bolts sheared their heads off. I intend to fit the new one tomorrow. When I took it out I was surprised to see lots of brown/black grease inside, where the 2 big teeth on the pump rear mate up with the 2 big teeth (or whatever they're ...

An older new boy!

Hi Everyone, I'm a 54 year old newbie to this site, and I'm posting a slightly belated introduction. I was on the Rovertech site, my user name was the same on there as it is on here. I own a 1994 220 Gsi hatch, and have owned it since May '97.I have in the past also owned a 420 turbo,a Maestro efi, a...

Re: Turbo to lower coolant pipe I/D size?

Hi Vinny, 16mm,I just measured my old pipe that I replaced with a SS one,and I tried some 16mm ID hose to be sure.
Halfords sell it in a 1m length for £4.40
"Halfords Heater Hose 1M 5/8" (16mm) HFX711",
although obvs that's a rubber hose for that price, not silicone.

Re: Rover 220 turbo water pump questions

Is this doable without removing the lambda sensor on a 220 turbo?
I can't get mine off as yet,I think it's the original.
Thanks.
