Re: T-series engine cooling fan inoperative

Are you sure that isn't normal? Admittedly mine is a diesel, but my cooling fan doesn't cut in until the gauge reaches somewhere around 2/3 - 3/4 of max, so quite a way above the halfway point. If that ISN'T normal for you i.e. the fan has always cut in at a different point, but now doesn't and the ...

Re: Rover 418SD Engine Running On

How long does it run on for? If it's just a few seconds, then the engine is using the little bit of fuel left in the system after the stop solenoid, which suggests the pump timing is out, especially as it only started happening after the cam belt was changed. The other possibilty is the fuel stop so...

Re: Rover r8 Speedometer shakes 15-40mph

Rimmer Bros they said there was only one for the diesel model. The part number is YBD10034EVA Please be aware that this speedo cable may be the wrong part. I also have a diesel turbo (my second) and I have replaced the speedo cables on both of them. They BOTH had a TWO peice speedo cable, not the o...

Re: Rover 218 TD not cranking no start

Daft question, but are you sure the immobiliser is turned off? This is one of the ways, the alarm system prevents the diesels from being stolen - no power to either the glow plugs or the starter. If the little red light in the dashboard that blinks when the alarm is set, is on solidly, then the immo...

Re: Brake pipe different size fittings

So gone to look at my new master cylinder and I have noticed that the rover 220 fitting that goes into the master cylinder is bigger than the holes on the 300 tdi master cylinder, what do I do? 2 choices. Either cut off the 220 fitting, get the correct sized fitting for the 300 master cylinder and ...

Re: Tyre sizes again...

Right - 14" Rover cross-spoke alloys. Tyre size is 185/60/R14 What would be the issues (apart from incorrect gearing/speedo reading) with fitting 65% profile tyres, i.e. 185/64/R14? I suppose (pre-emptively) - 6.5mm higher ride height and tyre roll on cornering - but does the extra % make them unsa...

Re: Front discs

I have a k plate 214si that I think needs new front disc`s how easy are these to replace myself and what`s involved ? Slide on the new discs and then reverse all the steps you've done to get to this point. Making sure that before you fit the discs, you ensure that you have cleaned off the surface o...

Insurance companys and women are very similar to mushrooms! Just keep them in the dark and feed them sh*t!! *laughs* We probably all do it, to a greater or lesser extent, but having worked for an insurance company in the long distance past, they are always looking for ANY reason not to pay out, so ...

Re: LED Bulbs

Don't think LED bulbs are legal for the R8. IF, and it is a BIG if, you want to believe the advice on the automotive LED light display in Halfords, if your car was not fitted with LED lights as standard, then it's not permissable to fit LED replacements except for interior and off-road use... a bit...

Re: rover 216 gti twin cam honda engine 5 door

There is a difference between low average mileage, (total mileage divided by age) and low mileage which means, well, low mileage! Very few cars will do 10-12k miles per year consistently past say 10 or 12 years as they tend to change ownership and different owners use cars to a differing extent. Ol...

Re: rover 216 gti twin cam honda engine 5 door

86k isn't low miles in my book I have to ask, as this piqued my curiosity. What would you consider "low mileage" on a 28yr old car? It's done an average of 3,000 miles P.A, when 10-12k P.A. is usually considered "average" mileage. You would certainly not say a 3 year old car with 9,000 miles on it,...

What I've gone and done is get myself emotionally invested in a machine, and that's a very silly thing to do.
It's something we all do and probably just as well, else a lot of older cars would never be saved. :laughing2

Front and Rear Speaker Diameters

I wonder if anyone can remind me what the diameters are for the door and parcel shelf speakers in an R8 saloon? I'm pretty certain this has been mentioned in topics before, but for some reason I can't find it with a search - probably using the wrong search terms. Are they 5.25in in the doors and 7in...

Re: Vented Disc Upgrade

I am pretty sure you are not going to be able to use any of the main components, the solid discs have a narrower gap between the piston and the caliper mounting points and a vented disc will simply foul. A vented disc is close to twice the thickness of a solid one, so If he wants to swap to vented d...

Re: Rimmers CS gone down hill.

I've not had any experience with Rimmer Bros before joining the club - in fact I had never heard of them before, so was a total surprise when I found out how easy it was to get some bits (if rather expensive!), so I can't really comment on their previous customer service standard, but my current exp...
