Re: Bumper repaint?

I have used a product from a company called Wurth. It's a paste that you apply with a cloth. They have a colour called anthracite (a grey colour - a bit darker but looks ok) which is a good match to the original. It has lasted well on a car that has been outside in all weather. It's expensive but a ...

Re: Rover 45 Door Handle Surrounds.

Found my modified spare door handles. That's the good news!

Taken photo's and they are on my desk top. More good news.

Now have no idea how to attach them to my message? :S

Re: Rover 45 Door Handle Surrounds.

Screwfix have a range of "Insert Nuts" in the Furniture Fixings section which can be used as a replacement captive nut to repair the door handles. I have found that the plastic that surrounds the captive nut in the door handle surround often disintegrates. In that case, I have used a fine chopped gl...

Re: Power Steering Oil Cooler

I have recently retro-fitted PAS to my Rover 216Gsi and refurbished all the components from the donor before fitting. The PAS oil cooler looked particularly bad (flaky rust etc) but it cleaned up well after I media blasted in my blast cabinet. I then did a pressure test on it using compressed air be...

Re: Rover 45 Door Handle Surrounds.

That's what I have done for my Rover 400 bubble and the similar Honda Civic.

Re: Rover 45 Door Handle Surrounds.

Quite a big problem with Rover 400/45 and similar Honda Civics. Particularly bad when we have a frost. The brass inserts just pull away from the "soft" plastic surround. As well as using a product like araldite to fix the inset back into position I have used fibreglass reinforcement of the area to s...

Re: Front indicator fitting misalignment

They are never just a quick job on older cars. It's like the tip of the iceberg with hidden traps just lurking under the surface. :sad

This week I just had to have a poke at that "little" spot of rust on my own 216gsi. Now needs a new drivers door!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Front indicator fitting misalignment

Forgot about that plastic locating peg. I remember elongating that mounting hole too. :blink

Re: Front indicator fitting misalignment

That certainly looks wrong at the moment. When I fitted "new" indicator side lamps to my 1990 216Gsi to refresh the look, I remember I had to elongate the hole in the inner metal plate to improve the fit. I used a round file to extend the mounting hole by a few mm (towards the rear of the car) until...

Re: Rear door card fabric

I like the idea of using the "fir tree" type fixings. A good idea.

I also fixed the edge of the fabric onto the back of the metal sheet. Looks like that was the original method of fixing?

I agree it is very satisfying once done. Much better than the saggy original. :D

Re: Rear door card fabric

A very comprehensive write up. I just did the same to my rear door, fabric inserts. The pink foam had disintegrated and turned to dust and the white rivet heads were showing through the fabric. I used some M5 countersunk bolts and recessed the existing mounting hole on the metal sheet to get a "flus...
