Re: Aftermarket Immobiliser

As shitzuki are still alive, any dealer shout be able to program the fob and rip you off accordingly. Don’t be surprised if bills are £70+ This would make life a whole load easier albeit expensive, but regrettably it's an aftermarket system, so like Jon Snow "they know nothing" :D Is it a Cobra uni...

Aftermarket Immobiliser

Not a Rover issue, but this forum seems a font of knowledge, so I will ask and see if anyone can help. My father has a Suzuki which before he got it, had been fitted with an aftermarket alarm/immobiliser (I assume as the car has a remote key access it was added to give the car extra security). In co...

Re: 2.0T Coupe - Overpriced and Questionable History ?

but it is a write-off and needs 'Recommissioning' ??? What the hell does that mean ? I assume he means that because the car was written off, it no longer exists as a legal car according to the DVLA. It looks like the vendor cba to undergo the necessary application to get a V5c from the DVLA to enab...

Re: 2.0T Coupe - Overpriced and Questionable History ?

The old girl needs a trip to dvla for a vic test if that's the way they still do it The VIC Test was abolished in 2015, apparently. It's going to depend a lot on what "CAT level" write-off the car was. Cat A and B you can forget ever getting a V5c for, however a Cat C should just require making an ...

If you stopped it mid-problem and then extracted the plugs one by one, would the dead cylinder smell more strongly of petrol?
If it's not firing at all then it certainly would, plus there is a real chance that the plug nose in the affected cylinder would be wet with unburnt fuel.

Re: Opinions on wheels

The tyres currently on these alloys are 175/65/R14 and I want to put on 185/55/R15. Is that feasible? If not what ones will fit on there? No - R14 are for 14" wheels. Prepared to be told I'm wrong but surely 15" tyres would be too big? If the tyres currently fitted are definitely on 14" rims (R14) ...

Re: Rover 214 m reg engine died

If there's fuel and spark why doesn't it try to catch nothing If you are getting fuel and a spark, then it suggests a timing issue. It's no good having a spark and fuel if they occur at the wrong time in the engines cycle. I would be inclined to check out the crank sensor, or any other timing senso...

Re: Tyres

The hard part is "breaking" the bead on the rim. When you see a tyre fitter do it they are squeezing the tyre under extreme pressure to get the bead to pop. I've heard of people using sledgehammers to break the bead, but the danger is clobbering the alloy, rather than the tyre and smashing it :scare...

Re: Little Purple Austin

Hydraulic brakes and clutches are super but sometimes, just sometimes, I think mechanical systems are probably less hassle ;) Not convinced I'd like to go back to rod operated braking systems :D but I would agree that mechanical clutches do have one huge advantage in fault finding, as in they eithe...

Re: Low profile tyres

I have 55 profile tyres on my 15"alloys (as the optional wheel/tyre combo). Compared to the standard profile tyres on the 14" rims, the ride is noticeably harder, but the steering is more precise and there is less "roll" in turns. The 55 profiles are not that much broader, which is part of the reaso...
