Re: FS; Early 216 GSi
I've posted this one ages ago, but search isn't picking that thread up. It had original dealer paperwork with it.
Have to give the vendor credit for sticking with it for such a long time. Perhaps the auto box is a turn-off?
Edit:
[Rubbish! It's a manual! I mis-remembered from the earlier ad. It is pretty tho']

Re: FS; Early 216 GSi
It's on Autotrader as well. It's been around for a while, but I agree - the colour combo is rather nice with the interior and exterior being complementary - even the cherry and tempest looking good as two rich/saturated colours.
Just needs a once over underneath to check sub-frame and the general condition.
) - and pulls about 3,200-3,300 at 70 so a 4th gear that's actually longer than 5th on a manual box. Gives it a bit of a lazy cruiser sort of feel. Apparently, the Honda auto box design is a bit of an oddity, but it's smooth enough and it should last a lifetime if you make sure the oil remains clean. Just check that it locks up convincingly when the car is started and driven from cold - not sure where you'd go to have the solenoid fixed/replaced otherwise.
However - having just checked the photos again - it's a manual so... you know... for those who like to test the rev limiter or whatever...

Don't write-off the auto till you've tried one! It's only 4-speed but surprisingly nice to drive - still very nippy when it kicks down (not that I'd know

Been for sale for absolutely ages. Not sure why. I’d say the beige interior and auto box are turn offs. They are for me, not my cup of tea.

It's not an auto...photos show a gearlever.
History of corrosion on MOT though.

Re: FS; Early 216 GSi
Seems to have been "fixed" recently - though not sure what work was actually undertaken. The sills and rear arch sections do look clean, so maybe they've been repaired to the right standard?? Or perhaps someone's found a "sympathetic" MOT testing station?

Re: FS; Early 216 GSi
Why oh why did so few of these top spec models have alloy wheels and aircon? If Rover were serious about encroaching into the bottom end of Jaguar's territory, both of those things should have been on the spec sheet.
It's a lovely looking car, though. I love the clean look of the nose on the grille-free models

Airon was a rarity in this sector in the UK back then. The £900+ price wouldn't have helped. ABS was a similar price. Then adding alloys, auto box and electric rear windows, you'd be paying £3000+ options on top of the £13,500 retail price.richard moss wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2019 5:34 amWhy oh why did so few of these top spec models have alloy wheels and aircon? I wonder where they got that idea from...?

But if they installed them at the factory it would have cost peanuts

The autobox and aircon (bought from Honda's suppliers) and ABS (bought from Bosch) weren't cheap at the volumes Rover were buying back thenrichard moss wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2019 5:28 pmBut if they installed them at the factory it would have cost peanuts

An 'J' registration with all the options ticked; so that's 14" lattice alloys, ALB , power steering, auto slushbox, full leather, 4 way electric windows, metalic paint, mud flaps, mats and a bobbing simpering salesman I expect, would have cost you...
£18,450 at December 1991 prices [ probably buy a house for that in the EMids after the crash!]
breaks down as follows:
ALB £762
Alloys £257
Auto+PAS £971
Lux Pack £698
Pearlescent Paint £220.74
Fabric Rover floor mats £55
Mud Flaps £27
All plus vat of course

Being a 1.6 the ABS is also from a Honda supplier...GTiJohn wrote: ↑Sat Apr 20, 2019 4:50 pmThe autobox and aircon (bought from Honda's suppliers) and ABS (bought from Bosch) weren't cheap at the volumes Rover were buying back thenrichard moss wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2019 5:28 pmBut if they installed them at the factory it would have cost peanuts

Re: FS; Early 216 GSi
Fourway electric windows & full leather seats I think; an electric sunroof with a wind deflector was standard on a GSi at a guess.
