Opinions on wheels

#1 Post by Hammond » Sat Dec 02, 2017 11:10 am

I know it's really only my opinion that counts as It's my car but I'd like to see what other people think of these different wheels on my GTi. I like them and think it makes the car more like a GTi and less like a Grandads car :laughing2

Obviously keeping the originals so can easily be put back to 'standard' to appease some out there :clapping

That's what I love about opinions, they're different :cool

I certainly wasn't keeping originals on there if I'm using it more frequently. A pain to clean and don't really like them anyway.

Just the opinion of an internet random obvs. but I like them too.I managed to achieve a similar result when I put the alloys off my son's MX5 on N132LHF (220 sli). The car somehow looked spruce in a way it hadn't before.Sadly the low-profile tyres were getting in the way of the steering so I am back on factory-fitted black steel.Yours look very good and I say that as a middle-aged person.
By the way-if I may be permitted to put this here-I would like to say a big thankyou to everyone on the forum who helped with advice about my vehicle. It is once again my daily driver despite being off the road since 2013 and I am really enjoying it! I sometimes find myself grinning like a loon as I speed along. My lad and I had tons of advice from dist ETV gtijohn and dozens of others and we really appreciate it.Should also give a shout-out to Lilbourne Garage for welding the sills(that would have been a DIY too far).Hopefully next year (touchwood) I will be able to give some thought to wheels and spoilers-cosmetic stuff -with a view to actually turning up at one or two club events. :)

For the R8, it's all about the amount of metal versus the amount of space in between - there has to be more metal than hole by some subtle margin. Higher spoke numbers look better in general. For 5-spokes, the width of each spoke becomes critical. I'd have to see your car properly side-on to see if there's enough metal there - those spokes do look pretty wide so it might be a thumbs up from me. A colour change might also work better. White for example. But getting the centre caps to match is then a pain.

The only other option is to find a detailed alloy that looks good, like MG hairpins, or Dist's B.K's on the 220.

I'm not sure Jeremy, I brought them on eBay but they weren't on a car at the time. If anyone else knows maybe they can shed some light

Check the cast-on part number against the Rimmer's site?

Just noticed the red valve caps to match the trim inserts. Nice.
