Mems ECU tuneable?

#1 Post by Jamesridgway1994 » Thu Jan 09, 2020 8:27 pm

From what i know/heard/read the mems ECU is a bit of a choco tea pot when it come to tuneing abilities but I heard a company on the web saying they can tune mems mem2, if so what could be done? Launch control? Or even a simple pop and bang tune?

At the moment it's only throttle response and few extra HP

A good one. Steve Abbott who is a very clever engineer did a very good remap on a spare MG ZR ECU he sent to me. Hence I've swapped the one I'd got in my 25.
It makes a sensible difference with a modified advance to give more ooomph in the low revs. I'm very happy with that since.

If you put a mg zr engine loom in you mems 1.9 / 2 , you can run mem 3 which response well to mapping , pop and bangs if you have too :laughing2

Indeed Steve offered me to program pop & bang as well: but I refused, I don't want to look silly in my 60s... :laughing

What's the difference between ZR loom? Are they the same just a different plug at the back of the ecu?

We could certainly do with getting more torque at the bottom of the rev range on my daughter's 1.4 Rover 25 -with the very light flywheel, the clutch is quite tricky for a learner.

If your is the 80bhp you could put the ZR throttle body on to make it 105bhp won't help much with bottom end tho.

Yes the plug is on for the mems 3 but your have to also mod the loom to fit to the early cars .

Its also advisable to ditch the dizzy cap for the wasted spark setup too, just a matter of swapping the rocker cover, simple job.
The 25X (2001 ROVER 25 1.4 Impression S, fate TBD)
The CX8 (1997 ROVER Cabriolet 1.6 K-Series, Resto Project)
The 25XD (2004 ROVER 25 2.0TD, Track Car ?)
The Parts Bin (2001 ROVER 25 1.6 S)
The ASTRA-DX (2012 VAUXHALL ASTRA 1.7CDTi, Daily Eco Driver)
