Rover coupe boot leak

#1 Post by aopop » Wed Jan 20, 2021 3:30 pm

I'm trying to trace a leak in my 1998 rover coupe, it's not the vent or light, water runs along seam and drop on to strut left hand side could this be windscreen? The roof drains seem fine really stuck hard to trace for sure as box section top of boot make it difficult. Thanks

If you have done everything else it can only be the seal around the window, but be aware there are very very few rear screens available now.

Thanks for reply, presume I can get screen taken out and refitted? Or is it screen it self at fault? I do have a spare in case the other breaks. Ta

Like i said, its a risk as its toughened glass but a good screen guy should be able to, no idea on price i'm afraid.

Forgot to ask is it worth tiger sealing around screen edge for now?
Presume it gets through screen into a seam inboot

Sorry for questions and thanks

It won’t need anything as strong as tiger seal as it’s not grabbing anything so normal black sealant will be enough if you find somewhere dry enough long enough for it to set.

Rear screen will come out, but you need to take your time, other places to check the actual lower metal strip on the boot like the clips that hold that in, also leaks through the actual screw holes, check both youR boot vents, they are terrible for allowing water in, take out and reseal

The leak seems to be from screw in clip bottom of rear screen below wiper. Could get clip out didn't want to damage glass so sealed around it. Any water came leak through the rear wiper hole in glass?
