A new 214 cabriolet owner

#1 Post by Dorchester » Thu Oct 10, 2019 5:58 pm

Hello chaps!
Thank you to let me join to the 200 & 400 owners club.

I'm since a fortnight the happy owner of a 214i cabby v16 1994 BRG (HNA) & lightstone leather, with alloy wheels, electric windows & hood.
VIN SAXXWMBHNBD016010, engine 14K4FJ52829682.
It was actually SORN since one year & a half and rather badly serviced & cared.
The downside: fully derelict hood & badly bruised rear right wing.
The odds: rather good engine, reinforced HG and interior in very good condition.
I'm hoping I'll be able to do some good in the following weeks: it cannot remain like that.

Some services had already been done:
- spark plugs
- leads
- oil & filter
- K&N air filter
- fuel filter
On the to do list (shortly):
- coolant
- brake fluid
- gear fluid
- belt & pump kit
Appointments made:
- with the saddler (nearly new mohair hood) on the 17th next
- with the manufacture of bodywork on the 28th next.

I'm a kind of Rover-holic: I've got 2 more as shown in the signature, and my cabby is the 5th Rover in the family since 1988. My parents owned a 213 then a 214Gsi I inherited & kept until 2015.

Here are a few pics of Gaby the cabby in her present rather sad condition:

:welcome

I think you'll find the help you need here :laughing2

Hoods are still available new and some second-hand. If you post in the 'parts wanted ' section of this forum you might find one

Thank you for your warm welcome. :)
I've got the nearly new mohair hood that my seller gave me with the car.
But I'll post very soon some inquiries in the appropriate section.

Thank to you both.
As I was advised not to open the new mohair hood immediately, I can only post some pictures of a closed cabby, which may look nonsensical...
First a close pic of the badly damaged right rear wing (before & after) then we'll turn around the car, then a quick glance inside.

But it's not the end of the story.
Some remaining bits & bobs and a few improvements and it'll nearly be the time of the year when cabbies like to be opened! :D

It would have been so simple for your bodyshop to paint your mirror shells at the same time!

Was a bit worried about the body/Good colour combo but it makes sense when I saw the last photo of the interior :clapping

Quite right. But I decided to do so afterwards. :slapme
Moreover I've just ordered from a French online scrappy another pair of mirrors, just in case some brutish may vandalize one of them.
I'd already got the primer on the shelf, now a good BRG 617 MOTIP spray & MOTIP varnish with sandpaper and that'll do. :)

Thank you but what do you mean by 'the body/Good colour combo''? :S
