What kind of alloys are they?

#1 Post by Dorchester » Sun Feb 21, 2021 8:00 am

Hello chaps.
I've got a good opportunity to get 4 alloys with good tyres (Starfire 185/55/R15 82V) for a very fair price 80€ the lot (£70)... nearly a steal!
I'm told by the seller they come from a 214 SI mk 3.
But which is the name of that alloy? And which models was it fitted to exactly? Directly fitted from factory or coming as an option?
Thanks.

They were available from R3 launch only on the Vi and were simply known as "5 Spoke Sports Alloys". Internally they were known as "Linfords" apparently. The only other alloy available at launch was a "7 Spoke Luxury Alloy" on the 216SLi and that was known internally as "Sally". I will let John explain how the names came about. As the range expanded the sports alloys were also standard on the 214iS and 218iS which had similar looks to the Vi but were more insurance friendly. The 7 Spoke Luxury alloy became optional on the lower spec i and Si models.
The sports alloy was also standard on the HH/R 420GSi and GSD. The 7 Spoke Luxury wheel was optional on the 420i and Si, standard on the 420SLi/SLD.
Here endeth today's lesson!

Incidentally the nice seller found that her tyres were... 12 years old hence she is selling now the alloy lot for... 30€ or £27 ! :o
No necessity to say that I've bought them... even they are 600 km or 370 mls far from home ! But my younger son will be kind to get them on my behalf because he lives 100 km or 60 mls far from the seller.
Never miss a bargain ! :D

I guess John! :laughing2
BTW I've found elsewhere on the flea bay that they may be called '5 Vision Spoke Alloy' with Part# RRC106034.

I'd better to stick on 15". Suspension is harsh on 17". I love my comfort and do take care of my backbone. But each on their own... and your boy isn't as old as I am, even I don't consider myself as particularly old but I've got a degenerative backbone disease. :)
