Did the alloy throttle body fix the idle issue mate ?

Quite, I can't believe its so far short though! Never mind, nothing a hacksaw can't fix.

It seems to have done the job - the exhaust was blowing when I ran it up yesterday but seemed to idle fine when cold and dropped back to idle quick enough when revved. Proper test will be when its back on its wheels and I can test drive it though.

Hopefully it should all be sorted by the weekend.

Weather ok today, so....

Finished off all the jobs on the Coupe for now, hopefully its good for the MOT now.

Exhaust came back off this morning, downpipe adapted and then everything bolted back up, with some new exhaust studs as the old ones were pretty knackered. New downpipe sits very close to front crossmember and seems to vibrate against it very slightly, never mind.

Swapped the power steering fluid reservoir and one of the pipes out and replaced all the jubilee clips, hoping this stops the haemorrhaging of oil that we've had for years. The pipes are moulded to shape, but I just replaced with standard hose, so I've got a big loop being the headlamp to avoid anything kinking - wasn't going to pay the price rimmers want for new though.

Topped up fluids, ran up to temp, all good! The new ECU has solved the issue with the IACV and the alloy throttle body has stopped the idle sticking, hoping it doesn't cause us any more hassle for a while - it'll just be good to get out in it, especially if the sun decides to come out.

Will go for MOT next week and then get a few long runs to clear the cobwebs.

I hope so, otherwise current understanding wife may become not amused wife!

I ran out of power steering fluid yesterday - although I saved some when disconnected the pipes most of it was used to turn the drive into a skating rink. Some was procured from Halfords this morning and reservoir topped up, seems to have stopped the rack groaning now which is good.

Down pipe is definitely vibrating against the subframe/crossmember thing so that's annoying and will need sorting asap.

I sounds like mine is still blowing somewhere, its only minor and I'm not crawling underneath again until the weather has seriously improved! I've got less than 2 months until the London to Brighton Mini run and a huge list of things to do before I can even MOT it....blowing exhausts can wait.

I keep getting an advisory on it. :laughing2

Bolts are at silly angles so will wait for warmer climates. :D

They don’t look too bad to sort?

Full brake service will sort most of that list.

As above, bit of tinkering, headlamp should be easy enough to fix, CV gaiters are a pain in the bum but if
you have to replace the rear shoes, tinker with the handbrake cable etc you could throw it up on axel stands
and do the whole lot, always set up a fix it day if you want folks of here to lend a hand.

Not too bad, just a pain!

Brakes should be easy to sort, headlamp I need to drill out the broken bolts and replace them.

I'm hoping emissions is just the cat I put on when changing the exhaust, I need to get the bolts off the one that was on the car and refit that, I think its better quality. I'll chuck some redex in, new spark plugs and make sure my wife gets everything nice and warm on the drive to the MOT centre!

If I can get the CV joint off the driveshaft that will save having to mess around with gearbox oil, but it's unlikely to go that well :headbanging

The last time I had to replace a CV gaiter, I cheated and used one that is designed to stretch over the CV joint using a cone. I bought a pair, which is just as well as the first one split quite spectacularly (possibly not enough lube or left stretched for too long on the cone). It's a bit of a wrestle, because the driveshaft wriggles around as you are trying to force the gaiter over the cone and you have to cut the gaiter down to fit properly afterwards, but it worked very successfully in the end for me. Not the purest of solutions, but it's keeping the dirt out and the grease in and in the end, that's all you can ask for. :D
