Often wondered if I could make some oval pieces the same size as the oval cut-outs in the mudguards, but with tapered sides on fairly thick material - 2-3mm or more. These might then push in to the holes and not "pull through." With a hole in the centre of each one to take new screws, this might be a really neat repair - but I haven't done it yet.
Ideal project for somebody with a FDM 3-d printer and ABS filament!

Well, bugger.

The GTi was parked on the street last night: the handbrake gave way and as the car was in neutral due to being unable to select P, rolled down the hill into a neighbour's work truck.

Thankfully the neighbour was a director of his company and the truck has minimal damage, and he's willing to forego dealing with insurance. I'm massively relieved.

The upshot of this I need quite a lot of body parts though. The car is still running and the frame is mostly ok.

I need:

grey front bumper, preferably with red trim
passenger bumper mount
bonnet (no grille)
short indicator hockey sticks and grille thingy
passenger headlight
passenger indicator
2x short indicator front wing

I think I have a few leads on FB but still need quite a few parts, bumper and bonnet in particular.

Craig Cheetham has offered me most of a front end for £beer - that's good, as I can get it for that and a tank of diesel - managed to borrow an estate as a parts hauler. Alas the front wings are goosed apparently, so I may still be looking for those unless I can use them as repair sections. Passenger short indicator wing in particular.

The GTi is going all '70s with a black bonnet for a while!

He needs the wing, not the indicator.

Your biggest battle with the UK market is we can buy a complete car for £100 and it's that main reason why they are the prefered classic because you can do a restoration on a budget.

Excuse me if I got this wrong, not meaning to confuse, but the price I quoted is for an indicator light, NOT a wing (that's why I include a part number). I don't have GENUINE wings in stock, I can source some a/m ones, these would cost about 100€ shipped. I have some RH ones in stock, 4 I think, need to check how many are genuine and how many a/m. I can do them for 139€ shipped, or better if combined.

Well, I now have a pair of wings, rust free, they were £50 delivered.

They look to be in a shade of Nightfire, and the body coloured rubbing strips with black inserts suggest they're off a 216GTi 3dr.

Going to slap them on soon, in an effort to get the car mobile again, and vacate the garage.

I've been on holiday in France so there's not too much to report, but my dad has been hard at work straightening the body out, and also continuing to mess with the main relay.

He's only gone and fixed it - it transpires that a wire had burned out in the dead relay, rendering it useless. The mystery NOS relay with a different multiplug was taken apart, and the innards/relays swapped over - I'm not quite sure what he did, but he commented that the later Pektron relay was of a better construction than the Mitsuba unit.

As I mentioned, the NOS relay came in an MG Rover box, but the part numbers lead to a 1999 Honda Civic 1.4: this made me suspect the relay was for an early HH-R 400 with a D16 - as we know, it is to all intents and purposes the same car as the 5 door 95-01 Civic.

I shall find some more information out on what he did as this may well be of interest to some members of the club/forum, as the main relays for these later Civics seem to be a bit easier to get hold of than the R8 original ones - though a dead R8 unit is needed as well as the Civic unit for the repair!

spot what's wrong with the picture - and it's not the red wing!

While I was on holiday my dad has been hard at work straightening the front end of the GTi out, then on Tuesday my new wings arrived, off a 216GTi 3dr it appears. Rust free, and even though they're Nightfire, the car looks a whole lot better for being grot free now. The driver's wing was undamaged in the accident, but as both wings were equally rotten, both were replaced, as I'd have had to do that anyway, or treat/sand/fill/prime/paint. Combined with a few bits borrowed from my dormant GSi, I've managed to make a roadworthy car for the time being - more importantly it means I can drive it to Cambs where I'll stick the front end of a dead 216GSi on it, then drive home again. Uncracked bumper, undamaged grille, hockey sticks, lights etc. As it happens both of my grilles are broken.
My mum and I are starting to question whether we really need the GSi now, as we weren't able to make use of it as we'd hoped, and the GTi is shaping up to be in as good, if not better condition - and in a more desirable package.
There's also the side matter of me having a hankering for a Renault 4...
I'll get the front end painted in time, might even go for a full respray as the car would be exceptional inside and out for that. The paint's all that's letting it down now (and a slight hole in one sill).

I rewired the radio too, swapping the incorrectly wired speakers and 12v feeds around - the radio (a Kenwood unit) now sounds really quite good - I was surprised how good in fact. The speakers are working supremely well.

Seems to be a Concerto bonnet?
I'd convinced myself that the contour round the headlamps differed between the siblings, but yours seems to fit well.

*laughs*, second person to say that. It's a slightly bent original bonnet that I've stuck a Honda badge on for a joke and to confuse people!

OK - so it turns out the relays inside the Civic block are actually exchangable with the R8 ones- they have the same footprint and layout but the design is a bit better. By desoldering them from a Civic relay and transplanting them onto an R8 board you can get an improved main relay.

So look out for worn out Civics in scrappers ;)
