GTi Spec

#1 Post by Paul_1978_yorks » Wed Dec 06, 2017 11:17 pm

There's a 216 GTi for sale on Gumtree at the minute and I was surprised to see how basic the spec is.

It's got a standard SOHC engine, manual windows and cloth seats.

Is does have a sunroof but I can't see if it has electric mirrors or manual.

What was the standard GTi spec? And what were "upgrades"?

Don't know the answer but if you mean this one: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rover-216-GT ... 2812063728

...then it has electric windows and electric sunroof. It even has the dashboard dimming control, which I thought was a GSi-only thing. You can see the controls in one photo.

Aside from the fabric seats, the lip spoiler and the SOHC engine, this is DOHC specification. The DOHC came with half-leather as standard and a rear wing - that's it.

The SOHC must have been the entry-level GTi model with this specification.

i do not believe that to be a gti, i think someone just put a sticker on on it.

As the owner of two, a J and K reg it would be identical to mine.

Both have electric window, both have rear headrests, both have electric sunroofs.

i think we have a peasant spec with a badge on.

I've certainly seen other 3dr GTi's advertised with plastic dash trim and manual windows.
As for instrument lamp dimming, Mike Templar's SOHC late breaker had this - the dash is in my shed!

I notice this one is in range of our Brizzle cluster.

Interesting one as it has all the exterior hallmarks of a GTi, eg silver paintwork above and below the rubbing strips (i.e. not grey), colour coded rubbing strips and bumpers (not grey), spoiler (also on GSi), but other specs (eg engine, windows, seats) are not typical of your GTi.

The seats are GTi "style" but without the leather.

It is a GTi. The only 3 dr available with a Honda engine was the GTi. Only the Twin Cam and the 220GTi got the leather side bolsters. The early 216GTi had steel wheels and manual windows as standard.

I worked with someone that bought a 3-door twin-cam GTi - H reg. at the same time as me buying my GSi. He had leccy windows but the switches were on the centre console. For a while I thought this was a GTi thing, but it must have been a conversion.

Well that's unusual - never seen the electric window switches there on an R8 before.

Perhaps it was a retro fitted central console from an R3.

Don't suppose we're talking about this one are we?

BTW, here's another 3-dr 1993 GTi with cloth seats, and dash-dimmer:
