Is this a rip off?

My mother who now owns my old Rover 600 Si took it to the local garage for a price on a middle exhaust section, only to be told that it needs a middle and back even though the back is perfectly serviceable.

And the price quoted £279, now to me that sound excessive as the parts from the local factors are £37 and £39 and a quick call to a local Longlife stainless steel exhaust manufacture quoted £299 from the cat back.
So to me they are taking the proverbial unless that is the going rate.

That is a rip off of gigantic proportions , I'd tell them where to get off, thieving crooks!

buy the parts and if you dont want to fit them im sure a local garage would only charge an hours labour.
